Lead Substation Engineer

About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Technical Services space. This role will lead substation engineering efforts across physical and protection & control project work, supporting utility-focused power delivery initiatives. You will partner with designers, CAD technicians, and client stakeholders to produce high-quality design packages from scoping through final implementation. The position also emphasizes design quality, code compliance, and field collaboration to help deliver reliable substation solutions for utility and municipal customers. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Responsibilities

• Execute substation physical and/or protection & control projects
• Perform quality control checks on design projects
• Create and review substation design drawings, including one-line and three-line drawings
• Compile bill of materials for substation projects
• Provide project lifecycle support from scoping to final design and implementation
• Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code in design processes
• Attend site visits and collaborate with the design team in the local office

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field
• 8+ years of substation design experience
• Excellent communication skills for internal team and client interactions
• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
• Collaborative leader capable of working in a team environment
• Self-starter with minimal direction required

Pay

Compensation: $107,900 – $195,050 annually
