Lead Structural Engineer (Generation)

About the role

The candidate will be involved in projects with our Power Generation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design light foundations and structures for solar farms, battery energy storage facilities, and substation projects
  • Design heavy foundations and structures for large power generation projects: generators, turbines, transformers, pipe racks, gas compressors, metal building systems, and masonry walls/buildings
  • Design structural steel systems for buildings, Platforms, equipment supports, etc.
  • Coordinate design requirements with drafter/designers
  • Occasionally travel to clients and projects and sites to interface with clients, verify existing conditions, and monitor construction progress (5%-10% travel)
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner
  • Proactively collaborate with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience
  • PE license
  • Proficient with structural engineering principles, practices, process, and the application to project work-related issues
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
  • Experience with power generation, transmission, and distribution projects
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, RISA, STADD), technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering
  • Experience with pre-engineered metal building systems
  • Experience with seismic analysis and design

Pay

Expected Salary (all locations): $98,300 - $175,230
