About the role
This Opportunity WSP is currently looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer - Bridges to join our Transportation Group in Buffalo, NY office!
Responsibilities
- Apply high-level structural techniques for various phases of projects including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, and construction.
- Work as part of a team of engineers to design and check bridge superstructure and substructures.
- Develop preliminary and final plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.
- Coverage with other disciplines, subconsultants, and Clients.
- Coordinate with other disciplines, subconsultants, and Clients.
- Utilize OpenBridge Software
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address structural, design, and/or construction issues or opportunities.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Aid in the development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
- Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Proactively collaborate with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities.
- Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
- Registered Professional Engineer, preferably in North Carolina or ability to obtain NC PE.
- Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
- Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, OpenBridge, MDX, STADD, etc.), technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions and arrive at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- NYSDOT Bridge design experience and familiarity with the latest NYSDOT manuals and standards.
- A member of and/or actively participating in local professional practice organizations.
Skills

- Discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, OpenBridge, MDX, STADD, etc.).

Pay
Expected Salary (all locations): $103,600 - $145,590
