About the role
The Lead Structural Engineer provides support to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for supervising a team of structural engineers and designers. The role involves leading the team in resolving technical issues and managing the project's scope, cost, and schedule.
Responsibilities
- Have a clear understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and schedule.
- Develop man-hour budgets and the structural manpower schedule, linking it to the engineering and project schedule.
- Develop the structural work plan and ensure it is integrated into the project-specific execution plan.
- Define system requirements to achieve project results and monitor their effectiveness.
- Assign work tasks and continuously monitor progress and quality.
- Represent the practice in engineering coordination meetings and participate in discipline design reviews.
- Schedule and coordinate discipline design reviews and area milestone reviews.
- Ensure coordination of all activities between the group and other practices during the design evolution.
- Manage personnel according to the man-hour budget, including approving personnel timesheets.
- Coordinate production of designs in 3D intelligent design environments and ensure 3D reporting and 2D drawing/document deliverables are maintained in Hatch’s Engineering Reporting system.
- Support the site engineering team with technical solutions and respond to technical queries.
- Complete statutory handover requirements and deliver agreed project deliverables.
- Close out report inputs and ensure all work designed, manufactured, and supplied complies with relevant occupational health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with client representatives to ensure effective communication and coordination.
- Participate in fabrication and construction inspections as required.
- Provide technical solutions and support to the site engineering team.
- Close out project inputs.
Requirements
- A recognized degree in engineering from an accredited college or university
- Registered Professional Engineering license is required
- Minimum 10 years’ experience
- Ability to manage individuals to attain quality, cost, and schedule objectives
- Experience with working on projects in a multidisciplinary environment
- Strong deliverable focus, ability to plan the work
- A high degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the discipline
- Good understanding of procurement, contracting, and commissioning methodologies
- Technical exposure to the equipment technologies related to the project
- Strong leadership skills
- Well-developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Preferred
- Extensive knowledge of 3D data-centric design systems/tools
- Strong ability to delegate and manage successful outcomes of work performed by others
- Extensive experience in mentoring young professionals
- Extensive experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects
- Major project experience
- Significant previous experience in engineering planning for the discipline
- Strong client focus
