About the Role
This lead design engineering position offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in structural engineering, providing an excellent opportunity to advance your career. You will guide a team of structural engineers, interface with engineers from other disciplines, and work directly with clients. The role includes leading and mentoring a structural engineering team on projects for new nuclear facilities and upgrades/modifications to nuclear power plants.
You will apply your knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design. As part of an engineering and design team, you will work on a wide range of projects, preparing, reviewing, and guiding design calculations, developing specifications, and collaborating with designers for drawing development. Responsibilities also include structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations.
There is potential for travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of structural engineers on nuclear facility projects.
- Interface with engineers from other disciplines and directly with clients.
- Prepare, review, and guide design calculations and specifications.
- Oversee structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations.
- Collaborate with designers for drawing development.
- Travel to client/vender offices and plant sites for design reviews, construction coordination, and field verification.
- Lead the use of modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
- Direct automation and process-improvement work, including automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation.
- Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- 12 or more years of experience in the design and analysis of industrial, heavy commercial, or nuclear facility structures as part of a project team.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
- Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) degree.
- On-site construction support experience.
- Experience with automation, AI, or agentic AI tools in engineering workflows.
- Additional learning or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields.

Pay
Compensation range: $134,546 - $205,557. Eligible positions may also participate in a yearly discretionary bonus.
