About the Role

This lead design engineering position offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in structural engineering, providing an excellent opportunity to advance your career. You will guide a team of structural engineers, interface with engineers from other disciplines, and work directly with clients. The role involves leading a structural engineering team on projects for new nuclear facilities and upgrades/modifications to nuclear power plants, including:

  • Applying knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design
  • Preparing, reviewing, and guiding design calculations
  • Developing specifications and working with designers for drawing development
  • Structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment, and foundations

There is potential for travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of structural engineers on nuclear facility projects
  • Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams and clients
  • Prepare, review, and guide structural analysis and design calculations
  • Develop specifications and oversee drawing development
  • Apply modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
  • Direct automation and process-improvement initiatives (e.g., automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation)
  • Oversee engineers using programming/scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs
  • Guide the use of AI or agentic AI tools while ensuring results are checked

Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Ten or more years of experience in the design and analysis of nuclear facility structures as part of a project team
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, N690, ACI 318, and ACI 349
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSCE degree
  • On-site construction support experience
  • PE or SE license
  • Additional learning or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields

Pay

Compensation range: $118,023 - $180,313. Eligible positions may also participate in a yearly discretionary bonus.
