About the Role

Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest. Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista. The San Diego campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery, and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

This is a benefited, full-time position generally working Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, located at Scripps Mercy San Diego in Hillcrest.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, package, sterilize, store, and distribute medical instruments, equipment, and supplies used in procedures for patient care.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment requiring decontamination or sterilization according to designated principles of asepsis.
  • Respond to immediate requests for sterilization or delivery of sterilized instruments to ensure there is no patient exposure to bioburden.
  • Test and record sterilizer equipment performance to ensure operating within sterility standards.
  • Maintain established control systems for supplies and equipment processed.
  • Coordinate daily communication and operational needs with affiliated departments.
  • May function as department lead with responsibility for assisting with daily department operations including staff scheduling, training, mentoring, and performance management.
  • May function as the technical expert for a particular service line and in this role is responsible for improving service line processes and daily quality outcomes.
  • Lead performance/process improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Completion of college training program for SPD, online study program, or formal on-the-job training program.
  • 5 years of SPD experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of sterilizers, surgical instrumentation, and medical equipment.
  • Proficient in MS Office and familiarity with database management.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or CBSPD Certification.
  • 1 year of experience in Central Processing.

Pay

$29.73-$41.71/hour

Schedule

Full-time, generally working Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
