About the role
The YMCA of Dane County is seeking a Lead Sports Instructor to help create a fun, positive, and engaging environment where young athletes can build confidence, develop skills, and discover a lifelong love of sports.
Responsibilities
- Lead youth sports classes independently or with an assistant instructor when class size requires additional support.
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate practices and activities that emphasize skill development and fun.
- Create a safe, organized, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Teach sports fundamentals while encouraging teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship.
- Effectively manage participant behavior and keep classes running smoothly.
- Communicate professionally with parents, participants, volunteers, and YMCA staff.
- Adeptly adapt lesson plans to meet the needs and skill levels of participants.
- Set up and take down equipment before and after each class.
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating enthusiasm, professionalism, and YMCA core values.
Qualifications
- Enjoy working with children.
- Reliable, dependable, and punctual.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of the sports being taught.
- Ability to confidently lead a class independently.
- Positive attitude and strong organizational skills.
- Coaching, teaching, or experience working with youth is preferred.
