About the role

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Community and Consumer Banking, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you will conduct critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Apply depth of knowledge and expertise to all aspects of the software development lifecycle, partnering continuously with stakeholders to stay focused on common goals.
  • Work in a collaborative, trusting, thought-provoking environment that encourages diversity of thought and creative solutions for global customers.
  • Develop using Test Driven Development and work in a Continuous Integration environment on a shared codebase.
  • Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with the ability to think beyond routine approaches.
  • Develop secure, high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability.
  • Take the lead on feature design and development, identifying new features and helping form program strategy.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring while encouraging team participation in design and development.
  • Prototype and deliver AI-enabled/agentic workflows (e.g., tool-using agents, orchestration patterns, evaluation, and guardrails) and translate stakeholder needs into technical designs.
  • Mentor engineers and partner with application teams to drive best practices across reliability, performance, risk, cybersecurity, and legal/compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines.
  • Extensive core Java (version 8 or higher) development experience with Spring or a similar framework.
  • Test Driven Development using JUnit.
  • Expert understanding of data structures, algorithms, and multi-threaded programming.
  • Experience working on multi-threaded, high-throughput, mission-critical, high-performance platforms.
  • Experience designing and building reusable services.
  • Experience with data security and encryption in an enterprise setting.
  • Experience with Java Spring Boot, Hibernate, Kafka, Cassandra, Kubernetes, PowerMock, JMeter, Splunk, Grafana, Dynatrace, Jenkins, Sonar, Fortify, Black Duck, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence.
  • Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-native application development (e.g., AWS, GCP, private cloud).
  • Ability to influence architecture and design across distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and best practices.
  • Ability to work in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals.
