Lead Shop Mechanic

About the role

JC Pallet, the trusted source for recycled pallets, is seeking a Mechanic to join our employee-owned team in Bladenboro, NC. This position will perform regular full-facility preventative maintenance, ensure road worthiness for our fleet of dry van trailers, and repair all malfunctioning equipment and machinery. The Mechanic will serve as the lead for the facility, overseeing maintenance activities, supporting equipment reliability initiatives, and providing leadership to maintenance personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs/installations using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and welding machines.
• Maintain upkeep of all equipment on site, including changing tires, light work, adjusting and changing brakes, wheel seals, troubleshooting air systems, replacing landing gears, and welding.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems.
• Work on tractor trailers: change trailer tires, brakes, airbags; diagnose light issues; repair trailer floors; and perform landing gear repairs.
• Maintain and diagnose issues on heavy machinery such as front-end loaders and bulldozers.
• Service equipment including bandsaws, chop saws, and manual feed saws: change bearings and diagnose issues.
• Perform routine service on tractors, service trucks, and other equipment.
• Safely lift up to 50 pounds and work at heights for elevated maintenance tasks.

Requirements

• Diesel knowledge is required.
• Electrical experience is a plus.
• Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
• Comfortable working under trailers, both underneath and on top.

Physical Demands

• Frequent lifting and bending.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Work under, on top of, and around trailers and heavy machinery.

Work Environment

• Occasional extreme temperature shifts (very cold to very hot).
• Exposure to dust and loud noise (hearing protection provided).
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and moving forklifts.

Schedule

• Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – (end time not specified).
• Some Saturday work may be required.
