About the role
This role will lead advanced research focused on NLP, LLM safety, and AI test and evaluation methods. The scientist will shape research programs that help mitigate AI system harms while generating practical insights that can strengthen safe deployment and validation practices. This position also partners closely with cross-functional teams and serves as a principal investigator on independent research efforts.
Responsibilities
- Direct and lead advanced research in NLP and LLM safety
- Formulate, design, and manage research programs to mitigate AI system harms
- Serve as principal investigator for independent AI test and evaluation research programs
- Analyze experimental results to find technical solutions to research problems
- Plan and execute procedures to validate testing and evaluation results
- Host workshops at leading AI safety conferences to discuss impactful research methods
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve research goals
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science with a focus on NLP or LLMs plus 6+ years of research experience
- Master’s degree in Computer Science with a focus on NLP or LLMs plus 8+ years of research experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a focus on NLP or LLMs plus 12+ years of research experience
- Expert knowledge of AI/software engineering principles
- Demonstrated experience in securing research funding through competitive proposals

Pay
$131,186 – $180,381 annually
