About the Role

The Lead Research Scientist will work alongside a dynamic team to shape and advance Visa's long-term research agenda in quantum information and computation, driving the development of innovative technologies and insights that align with Visa's strategic products and businesses. The ideal candidate will guide the application of quantum information and computation in the finance and payments sector, overseeing the development and implementation of quantum algorithms for financial applications such as portfolio optimization, risk analysis, and derivative pricing. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to influence Visa's strategic vision as a world-leading company. The successful candidate should have an outstanding academic and research track record, evidenced by influential publications and robust academic credentials. As a leader, the candidate must demonstrate initiative, effectively navigate ambiguity, exhibit exceptional attention to detail, and foster a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Propose an agenda for research and development in the field of quantum information and computation especially in applications to finance and payments.
  • Design and test novel algorithms and models to advance the state-of-the-art in quantum computing.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and coaching to research team.
  • Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.
  • Capacity to influence business partners and assist in explaining results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to explore applications of quantum computing in various domains.
  • Understand and influence product, project, and technology roadmaps.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements and breakthroughs in the field of quantum computing.
  • Create strong working relationships with other members of the quantum information and computation research community.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience and Ph.D. degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, engineering, physics or equivalent field.
  • Preferred: 6+ years of relevant experience and Ph.D. degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, engineering, physics or equivalent field.
  • 5+ years of postdoctoral research experience in quantum computing or related domains.
  • Internationally recognized research track record, evidenced by high-impact publications, patents, and contributions to the research community.
  • Proven leadership in guiding large-scale, multi-institution research programs.
  • Deep expertise in designing quantum computing solutions for financial or related applications.
  • Proficiency in quantum programming environments such as Qiskit, Cirq, or equivalent platforms.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and validating algorithms on quantum hardware.
  • Demonstrated excellence in mentoring scientists at varying career stages.

Pay & Benefits

  • Estimated salary range: $215,300.00 to $344,600.00 USD per year (may include potential sales incentive payments; salary may vary depending on job-related factors).
  • This position may be eligible for bonus and equity.

Schedule & Work Environment

  • This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager. No remote exception for this role.
  • Work hours vary upon the needs of the department.
  • Travel required 5-10% of the time.
  • Position performed in an office setting; requires sitting and standing at a desk, communicating in person and by telephone, frequently operating standard office equipment such as telephones and computers.
