About the role
The School of Nursing at Emory University is seeking a Lead Research Informatics Analyst to support multidisciplinary research studies. This role requires strong experience with research data systems, healthcare databases, and data analytics.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain research databases to support clinical, public health, and behavioral studies.
- Lead data management activities across the study lifecycle, including study setup, data collection, validation, and closeout.
- Develop and implement data quality monitoring frameworks, including validation rules, edit checks, and discrepancy resolution processes.
- Collaborate with investigators and research teams to translate study protocols into data collection tools (e.g., CRFs, surveys).
- Aid in the on-boarding and training of study staff (clinical coordinators and data managers) to ensure data integrity and data provenance.
- Manage and integrate data from multiple sources (e.g., EDC systems, external vendors, surveys, device data).
- Perform data cleaning, transformation, and preparation for statistical analysis.
- Develop queries, reports, and dashboards using tools such as SQL, Python, R, or other statistical software.
- Establish and maintain data governance standards, SOPs, and documentation to ensure compliance and reproducibility.
- Support regulatory compliance with applicable standards (e.g., GCP, HIPAA, NIH, institutional policies).
- Train and support research staff on data systems, workflows, and best practices.
- Identify data-related risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree and seven years of experience in information technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Five years working within a health, research, or academic institution preferred.
- Knowledge of data and information systems standards relevant to the field of biomedical informatics and health systems.
Prior Experience
- Hands-on experience with REDCap or similar electronic data capture (EDC) systems.
- Strong understanding of research data workflows, including longitudinal and multi-site study designs.
- Experience with data cleaning, validation, and quality assurance processes.
- Proficiency in at least one programming or query language (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, or Python).
- Experience developing reports, dashboards, or data visualizations.
- Knowledge of data governance, data standards, and documentation practices.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines.
- Experience in academic and healthcare research.
- Exposure to data analytics or machine learning workflow.
