Responsibilities

  • Manages relationships with clinical partners for open communication.
  • Ensures timely and continual coverage of assigned work areas for prompt patient service.
  • Provides on-call support as needed.
  • Contacts insurance companies to verify eligibility and benefits.
  • Obtains pre-authorizations and enters required information.
  • Registers patients for all services, ensuring accuracy of demographic elements.
  • Performs Medicare compliance reviews and eligibility checks.
  • Updates patient accounts and financial assessments.
  • Creates accurate estimates and advises patients on expected costs.
  • Affords assistance with quality audits, mentoring staff, and departmental training.
  • Coordinates with case management staff and provides logistical information.
  • Documents conversations with patients and insurance representatives.
  • Attends department meetings and promotes positive dialogue.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Mature judgement in dealing with patients, physicians, and insurance representatives.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft programs and familiarity with database programs.
  • Ability to operate general office machines and machines like computers, fax machines, printers, and scanners.
  • Ability to learn and perform multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Professional and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Adaptable in a changing healthcare environment.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to complex instructions and procedures.
  • Knowledge of government guidelines such as CMS, EMTALA, and HIPAA.
  • Advanced understanding of insurance knowledge and benefits.
  • Advanced understanding of hospital electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Basic medical terminology.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred).

Qualifications

  • Associate degree preferred, high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Field of study in business or related field.
  • 1+ years of customer service experience.
  • 1+ years of revenue cycle experience.
  • 2+ years of direct patient access experience (preferred).

  • Moderate knowledge of insurance knowledge and benefits.
  • Intermediate medical terminology.
  • Advanced understanding of hospital electronic medical report (EMR) system.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and procedures.

Pay

$20.21 - $32.34 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday-Friday from 10am-6:30pm, with flexibility as needed.
