Lead Registered Nurse
About the role
The role involves coordinating and maintaining patient flow through the pediatric screening process, providing leadership and oversight for PRN and part-time nursing staff, overseeing health screenings conducted by medical and allied health students, assisting in the advancement of the Score 1 for Health Program, and ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements, universal precautions, and applicable protocols.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, supports, and evaluates PRN and part-time nursing staff to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with program standards and clinical protocols.
- Provides orientation, training, and competency validation for PRN and part-time nursing staff, KCU students, staff volunteers, and external Allied Health students participating in screening activities.
- Provides oversight of the follow-up process to ensure outreach caseloads are effectively managed, families are contacted promptly, outreach is documented, and appropriate community referrals are made.
- Serves as a liaison and resource for schools, families, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
- Develops and maintains community partnerships to promote Score 1 programs and improve access to services.
- Promotes healthy lifestyles through education, outreach, and advocacy.
- Represents the University in accordance with established Core Values and organizational expectations.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- Extensive knowledge and experience may substitute for education.
- Three years experience in pediatric, community, public, or school nursing.
- Experience in patient education, diabetes education, health promotion, social services desired.
- One year experience working with low-income, multi-cultural families preferred and highly desirable.
- Must be proficient with MS office (word, excel, access).
- Must have excellent time management skills, be able to work independently, productively, and with little to no supervision.
- Must be able to provide own transportation to elementary schools when needed.
- Flexibility in work hours, due to early evening activities, including attendance and phone work.
- Strong skills in phone and face-to-face health assessments, specifically ability to assess readiness for change in lifestyle.
- Demonstrated attributes in displaying compassion and developing trust while interacting with all constituents.
- Strong phone skills essential.
- Maintain an active MO and/or KS license for registered nurses or be able to obtain bi-state licensure.
