Lead Python Developer/AWS

About the role

CGI is seeking an experienced Lead Python Developer with AWS to provide hands‑on technical leadership for backend applications running on AWS (Lambda and EKS). The role involves remaining an active contributor to the codebase, sharing ownership of technical decisions with existing onshore and India‑based tech leads, reinforcing standards, and adding senior engineering capacity. The incumbent will interface directly with management to translate technical tradeoffs into business terms and coordinate with peer leads to keep architecture and standards aligned across teams and sites.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for Python/AWS backend services, collaborating with existing tech leads as a shared owner of technical direction.
• Lead and participate in code reviews; set and reinforce coding standards, patterns, and best practices across the team.
• Design, develop, and support cloud‑based application components and services using AWS, emphasizing maintainability, reliability, security, and operational readiness.
• Guide serverless and event‑driven architecture decisions using AWS Lambda, S3, SQS, and DynamoDB.
• Hands‑on experience with EC2 and EKS (deployments, services, ingress, config/secrets, troubleshooting), Boto3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Design, develop, and maintain Python applications using strong object‑oriented design, reusable components, and clean coding practices.
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs using FastAPI and/or Flask.
• Utilize AWS Glue, Pandas, and NumPy to manage, transform, and analyze large‑scale data frames for seamless data transfers.
• Apply deep SQL knowledge at an architectural level — schema design, indexing strategy, and system‑level performance tuning.
• Design, write, and review SQL used by applications for reliable, efficient data access.
