Lead Project Manager

About the role

The role involves leading project management, project engineering, and project controls for mining, mineral processing, metals, industrial water treatment, chemical processing, and heavy industrial projects across North America and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of technical professionals and subject matter experts to deliver multiple concurrent projects.
• Lead and monitor scope, schedule, and budget for overall project performance.
• Ensure alignment with client objectives, project governance requirements, and industry standards for engineering studies, detailed engineering, EPCM, Owner’s Engineer, and other consulting delivery models.
• Develop sufficient technical understanding of each discipline to facilitate interdisciplinary coordination, identify project risks, and support decision making.
• Support business development including client relationship management, proposal development, project pursuits, contract negotiations, and resource planning.
• Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, schematics, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
• Establish and drive appropriate levels of technical review required for the project, select qualified staff for reviews, and adhere to QA/QC plans.
• Develop and update Project Initiation/Setup Documentation including Risk (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety (PSP), and Communications Plan, as necessary.
• Complete formal project closeout activities and conduct and document a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
• 7-10 years of relevant experience in a project engineering, project management, engineering management role within the Mining, Mineral Processing, Industrial Water Treatment, or Oil & Gas industries.
• Well-defined knowledge of project delivery process within the architecture, engineering, and construction industry and strong background and experience in project management.
• Highly proficient interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively, persuasively, and tactfully with leadership, clients, subcontractors, and employees at all levels of the organization.
• Experience being responsible for project financial performance and tracking and reporting on expenditures as well as forecasting estimated costs to complete.
• Self-motivated with excellent verbal/written communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
• High proficiency with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.
• Certifications preferred: (PE, PMP, MBA etc.).
