About the role
AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Lead Project Geologist / Assistant Project Manager for immediate employment in our Bloomfield, New Jersey office. In this role, you will serve as both a technical lead and project management partner, supporting environmental investigation and remediation projects from planning through execution. You will provide technical leadership, mentor junior staff, coordinate project activities, and assist Project Managers with client communication, financial tracking, scheduling, and project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical execution of environmental site investigations and remediation projects.
- Apply geologic expertise to develop practical, technically sound solutions for complex environmental challenges.
- Interpret geologic and environmental data, conduct technical analyses, and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Prepare and review technical reports, work plans, and regulatory deliverables.
- Support Project Managers with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, invoicing, and overall project execution.
- Assist with managing project scope, schedule, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, subcontractors, and field personnel.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to geologists, scientists, and junior staff.
- Monitor project performance, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Provide technical quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on project deliverables.
- Communicate project status, technical findings, and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Support proposal preparation, cost estimating, and business development activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of progressively responsible experience supporting environmental investigation and remediation projects, or demonstrated equivalent education and experience.
- Current Professional Geologist (P.G.) license in the State of California.
- Experience with site investigations, remedial investigations, and environmental compliance.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel occasionally, including overnight travel when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving as a technical lead while supporting project management activities.
- Experience preparing proposals, scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders.
- Familiarity with project financial management, invoicing, forecasting, and resource planning.
- Interest in developing client relationships and supporting business development.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams on environmental consulting projects.
- Experience executing Site Investigations, Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, and Risk Assessments for federal, industrial, or commercial environmental projects.

Pay
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $94,000 to $131,000.
