About the Role

WSP is seeking an experienced, innovative, and results-oriented Lead Professional Traffic Engineer to join our Pacific Mountain West Traffic & Transportation Team in Las Vegas, Nevada. This role will support local, state, and regional clients, contributing to project delivery, staff development, and client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Develop transportation solutions in collaboration with traffic, transit, and planning teams.
  • Use cutting-edge analysis, modeling, and simulation techniques (e.g., Vissim, Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS) to evaluate traffic operations alternatives for safety, access, and mobility improvements.
  • Perform traffic operation analyses and travel demand forecasting for transportation engineering and planning projects.
  • Support development of regional and project-level traffic forecasts.
  • Prepare tables, figures, and technical reports/presentations to summarize impacts for communities, public agencies, and decision-makers.
  • Manage tasks, monitor scope, schedule, and budget, and ensure excellence in project delivery.
  • Analyze and interpret data from field/site investigations to develop action plans for moderate- to high-level risk mitigation.
  • Apply traffic engineering techniques to improve transit and roadway projects across all phases, including concept development, design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Oversee cross-functional teams of engineers, planners, and professionals on small to mid-level projects, including budget tracking, technical calculations, permit applications, construction oversight, and compliance documentation.
  • Develop and design intersection and corridor improvements, including near-term initiatives and long-term capital projects requiring coordination with authorities, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Design communications networks and traffic signal improvements for real-time corridor operations.
  • Collaborate on proposal and business development opportunities.
  • Stay current with the latest traffic engineering techniques and practices.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and perform additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, with prior traffic design experience.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Highly proficient in traffic engineering principles, capacity and operational analysis, and technical computations.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations of transportation corridors, applying regulations and policies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, provide leadership to teams, and adhere to QA/QC standards.
  • Proficient in technical writing, office automation, and relevant traffic engineering software.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills for data analysis and solution development.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, and compliance policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • PTOE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) certification.
  • Project management experience.
  • Involvement in professional societies, conferences, committees, or presentations.
