Lead Product Test Engineer
About the role
The APU/Shaft/Altitude/Component Test team is part of Engines & Power Systems Engineering Test Services (ETS). The team plans and executes gas turbine engine and component testing for turboshaft propulsion engines and Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), supports test facility and test equipment upgrades/maintenance, and contributes to Engineering Transformation initiatives that improve operational performance and accelerate delivery of quality test data.
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain test technical requirements, plans, and specifications; advise program and functional leadership on technical approach, risks, and issue resolution.
- Develop and approve technical content, commitments, and cost/schedule inputs for proposals, work authorizations, and change orders within assigned scope.
- Lead cross-functional test execution, coordinating across engineering disciplines, operations, technicians, and facility stakeholders to deliver test objectives.
- Drive facility and test equipment upgrades, maintenance plans, and reliability improvements to maximize operational uptime and throughput.
- Capture and coordinate with peer test teams and Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) on test process improvements and shared resource utilization (people, equipment, facilities).
- Ensure Safety, Integrity, and Compliance in all test operations, including hazard identification, procedural adherence, and configuration control.
- Mentor and develop team capability in engine test processes, technical rigor, and execution discipline.
- Provide onsite leadership; support off-shift execution as needed to meet test schedule demands; support occasional remote testing for special programs.
Qualifications
- Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.
- Must Have 8+ years of engineering experience (Mechanical, Aerospace, Test, Project) and/or hands-on mechanical test experience.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering, science, technology, or mathematics.
- We Value Experience with gas turbine engine and/or component testing (APU and/or turboshaft preferred).
- Experience planning and executing capital programs (facility/test cell/test equipment).
- Knowledge of mechanical measurement and instrumentation (torque, thrust, temperature, speed, pressure, vibration, etc.).
- Experience with test equipment and facility operations, including maintenance planning and reliability improvement.
- Control systems familiarity, especially facility control systems and transient behaviors of test systems.
- Demonstrated ability to define and execute test plans that meet technical requirements within cost and schedule constraints.
- Strong execution under schedule pressure while maintaining technical rigor and safety.
- Experience with requirements management, validation, and verification.
- Agile program/project management experience.
- Able to manage multiple priorities concurrently; strong judgment on “critical few” issues and driving closure.
- Strong communication, customer/stakeholder management, and team leadership skills.
- Demonstrated collaboration across functions and organizational levels; ability to drive cultural and transformational improvements.
- Strong mentoring and influencing skills; comfort operating in ambiguous environments and creating structure.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Teams).
