Lead Platform Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure

About the role
The Lead Platform Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure plays a critical role in advancing the design, implementation, and evolution of secure, scalable, and automated infrastructure across Planet Fitness’s cloud environments. As a senior member of the team, this individual will drive platform initiatives, contribute to strategic planning, and ensure alignment with business goals. This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires regular, in-person work at our Hampton, NH or Boston, MA office (M/T/W in office; TH/F optional work-from-home). Candidates must reside within commuting distance of one of these locations.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Director, IT Infrastructure & Cloud to execute the IT vision for Planet Fitness
- Drive platform engineering projects from planning through execution and delivery
- Support weekly team meetings to review work progress, remove blockers, and align priorities
- Build and maintain cloud infrastructure in AWS, with contributions to Azure and other platforms
- Own and evolve the internal developer platform service catalog
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code
- Guide Kubernetes (EKS) operations including deployment strategies and scaling
- Improve CI/CD pipelines and developer enablement tooling
- Define and track KPIs for platform performance, reliability, and developer productivity
- Use existing platform roadmap and build a forward-looking roadmap aligned with business goals
- Collaborate with app/dev, data, and InfoSec teams to align platform capabilities with business needs
- Ensure compliance with security guidelines and vulnerability remediation SLAs
- Document systems, workflows, and architecture for transparency and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to Agile practices including sprint planning, retrospectives, and iterative delivery
- Monitor and troubleshoot systems using tools such as Datadog and PagerDuty
- Drive team projects including support and access requests, threat modeling sessions, and on-call rotation
- Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and operational excellence
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 7 years experience in a Cloud, DevOps, or Platform Engineering role
- Proven experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineers
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS (preferred), Azure, and other cloud platforms
- Proficiency in Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Deep experience with Kubernetes (EKS preferred) and CI/CD tooling
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub, Jira, and Confluence
- Hands-on experience with static analysis tools
- Strong communication and presentation skills across all levels of the organization
- Ability to define and measure KPIs and translate platform metrics into actionable insights
- Experience with Agile methodologies and Scrum practices is highly valued

Pay
Annual base salary range: $155,000–$170,000. The amount will correspond with a candidate’s professional experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
Schedule
Hybrid schedule: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in office (Hampton, NH or Boston, MA); Thursday and Friday optional work-from-home.
