Lead Platform Engineer

About the role

As a Lead Platform Engineer (Consultant) at Kainos, you’ll lead teams to design, automate, build, manage, and optimize modern digital service platforms in a fast-paced environment. You’ll make sound, reasoned decisions while learning about new technologies and approaches, collaborating with colleagues to grow professionally. As the technical leader, you’ll interact with customers, share knowledge, and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside colleagues in engineering, testing, consulting, product management, and security to build, test, and deploy high-quality software, including operating and improving underlying platform services.
• Ensure the latest technologies are employed appropriately and aligned with industry best practices for maximum user and business benefit.
• Share knowledge internally through communities of practice and externally within the industry.
• Foster a DevOps culture by embodying Kainos values and serving as a role model for colleagues.
• Provide technical leadership, solving challenging problems with your team on delivery and support projects.
• Manage, coach, and develop a small number of staff, focusing on performance and career growth.
• Develop specialisms and pivot your career based on exposure to new technologies.

Requirements

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical designs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven experience in team leadership and supporting a DevOps culture in delivering or supporting complex projects.
• Significant expertise in designing, building, testing, automating, monitoring, and operating modern digital service platforms in production environments.
• Experience with Continuous Delivery and automation techniques for releasing operationally ready software, including platform orchestration using configuration management tools.
• Demonstrable experience in building or supporting modern digital service platforms, including architecture, design, estimation, planning, and iterating on MVPs using agile approaches.
• Championing best practices in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) tooling, techniques, and processes to manage and improve platform services (e.g., monitoring, modernization, cost optimization).
• Experience using public cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and SaaS/PaaS offerings to solve business problems.

Qualifications

• Certification with a public cloud provider (AWS/Azure) is desirable.
• Certification in a specialized area (e.g., Kubernetes CKAD) is desirable.
