About the role
The Lead Operating Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in commercial properties. They also manage maintenance staff and coordinate with external contractors.
Responsibilities
- Aid in or conduct daily operations and maintenance of building systems
- Supervise maintenance staff and assign tasks
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspect equipment
- Recommend improvements to the maintenance program
- Develop and maintain building-specific maintenance procedures
- Coordinate with outside contractors and technicians
- Maintain stock and inventory control
- Respond to emergencies and customer concerns
- Ensure compliance with codes and regulations
- Compile and submit monthly reports to management
- Complete safety training as required
- Adhere to company uniform and dress code
- Operate and repair various building systems
Requirements
- At least 5 years of related trade experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Apprentice program or trade school graduate preferred
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- Appropriate licenses/permits for trade (e.g., Journeyman or Master Electrician)
- Universal level certification for CFC and HFC based refrigerants (EPA Section 608)
- Basic computing skills in Microsoft Office
