Lead Nursery Technician

As the Lead Nursery Technician, you will lead a team responsible for maintaining the vegetation cycle of sustainable plants within a cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facility, contributing to the creation of exceptional cannabis products for patients and consumers. This role ensures the highest quality products and compliance standards while fostering a world-class work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead team in the care of plants in the vegetative state in mom, clone, or veg rooms.
  • Execute daily tasks including transplanting, cutting clones, watering, trimming, bottoming, topping, pruning, and defoliating.
  • Communicate goals and track team performance.
  • Complete KPIs, record keeping, and other performance metrics.
  • Direct labor to achieve daily goals and efficiency targets.
  • Create and follow department-specific work instructions and SOPs.
  • Develop deep technical knowledge for the department and translate it into work instructions, SOPs, and visual guides.
  • Build strain-specific cannabis knowledge to identify growth patterns and anomalies.
  • Ensure consistent execution of new employee training and retraining, completing all training documentation.
  • Mentor and develop team members with real-time coaching.
  • Accurately track product and waste in the state traceability system.
  • Investigate and report incidents (accidents, near misses, poor performance, etc.).
  • Lead daily communication meetings, including action item tracking.
  • Direct, schedule, and lead the team to meet production goals.
  • Escalate issues to Supervisor, Operations Manager, or HR as appropriate.
  • Foster a positive work environment with a self-motivated attitude.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including tasks in other cultivation areas.

Safety

  • Act as a leader and role model for safety and compliance.
  • Be aware of workspace hazards and retain department-specific training.
  • Report safety incidents and comply with follow-up actions.
  • Adhere to area safety requirements, state regulations, and PPE requirements.
  • Follow GMP, biosecurity, sanitation, and other compliance requirements.
  • Perform accurate and complete record keeping.
  • Maintain and calibrate tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Report and escalate safety and quality concerns.

Working Conditions

  • Regularly perform reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Repetitively climb ladders/stairs and work from elevated platforms.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods while maintaining focus.
  • Lift, carry, and balance up to 50 pounds (100 pounds with assistance) with extreme care.
  • Work in environments of 85+ degrees and 70% humidity for extended periods.
  • Work at heights in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Daily exposure to allergens such as cannabis, tree nuts, and coconut oil.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Effective time-management skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work well with others and complete individually assigned tasks.
  • Prior cannabis experience not required.
  • Must pass all required background checks and state badging agency approval.
  • Must remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the cannabis industry.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

Pay

Competitive pay range based on experience, qualifications, and location. Positions may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.

Green Thumb Pay Range: $22—$22 USD.
