Lead Nuclear Medicine PET Technologist

About the role

Under the broad direction of the Nuclear Medicine Authorized User, Director, MD and the Supervisor of Nuclear Medicine, the lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist assists the supervisor in overseeing all technical aspects of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Moffitt Cancer Center. The lead technologist is responsible for the day-to-day workflow of the department, radiopharmaceutical dosing computer, staff assignments, equipment quality control, and both clinical and research trials, including phantom and instrumentation requirements.

The lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides technical training to staff in correlation with clinical and research protocols and obtains diagnostic images as requested by clinicians. They assist the supervisor with implementing research trials, including writing imaging protocols, attending site visits, and communicating with research coordinators. The lead technologist acts as a liaison between radiologists and staff technologists regarding technical issues or protocol updates and oversees the daily operation of the department in the supervisor’s absence.

The role requires troubleshooting, critical decision-making for equipment maintenance and safety, and the ability to work weekends, varied hours, scheduled shifts, and "on call" hours.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day workflow of the Nuclear Medicine Department.
• Manage radiopharmaceutical dosing computer and staff assignments.
• Oversee equipment quality control and clinical/research trials, including phantom and instrumentation requirements.
• Provide technical training to staff in alignment with clinical and research protocols.
• Obtain diagnostic images as requested by clinicians.
• Assist in implementing research trials, including writing imaging protocols, attending site visits, and communicating with research coordinators.
• Act as liaison between radiologists and staff technologists for technical issues or protocol updates.
• Oversee daily operations of the department in the supervisor’s absence.
• Perform troubleshooting and critical decision-making for equipment maintenance and safety.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree – Graduate of a Committee of Allied Health Education and AMA Accredited Nuclear Medicine Program.
• Florida state license required – Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT).
• ARRT(N) or CNMT through NMTCB certification or equivalent required.
• Current BLS certification.
• Three (3) years of previous experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
• Competency in all aspects of Nuclear Medicine Technology, including anatomy and physiology, SPECT/CT, acquisition, processing, patient positioning, therapeutic procedures, and ALARA procurement, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials.

Pay

Salary range: $45.02 - $68.72 per hour. Salary ranges represent the expected base pay for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location, experience, skills, education, and internal equity among team members in similar positions.
