About the role

The HI USA PUB TOUR allows our travelers to engage in a common social activity that exposes them to new locations within our community and facilitates conversations with other guests. We are seeking a volunteer to lead a weekly Monday Night Karaoke Outing.

Responsibilities

  • Meet guests at our hostel in the Loop and walk them to a nearby karaoke bar.
  • Showcase local nightlife culture to guests.
  • Ensure the program includes questions and/or activities that encourage conversations and/or reflection among the guests.
  • Encourage guests to share their favorite pub traditions and discuss the history and culture of the venues.

Requirements

MUST BE A RESIDENT OF CHICAGO OR THE CHICAGO AREA TO APPLY.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of local nightlife culture in Chicago.
  • Ability to engage guests in meaningful conversations.
  • Willingness to participate in a recurring weekly or bi-weekly schedule.

Skills

  • Public speaking skills.
  • Foreign language skills (optional).
  • Interpersonal communication skills.

Pay

No pay is offered for this volunteer position.

Schedule

Monday nights 7:30-10:30p or 8p-11p. This would be recurring weekly or bi-weekly.

HI USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education association with the purpose of "inspiring a deeper understanding of people, places, and cultures for a more tolerant world." As a non-profit, the revenues received through overnight stays and memberships are reinvested in mission delivery.
