Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Lead Model Based Systems Engineer (MBSE)/Digital Engineer in Springfield, VA or St. Louis, MO.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical advisor to the NGA Chief Architect and provide hands-on leadership for the modeling, Digital Thread strategy, lifecycle traceability, and ecosystem integration that underpin the Digital Engineering Environment (DEE).
- Help engineer the evolution from fragmented tools and disconnected data toward a unified, model-driven ecosystem anchored by an enterprise authoritative data source, enabling decision-grade engineering and mission operations.
- Guide MBSE/UAF/SysML modeling efforts, coordinate mission engineering threads, and directly shape the architectural and data integration backbone for NGA’s enterprise-level Digital Twin.
- Lead a team of MBSE engineers and collaborate deeply with the Enterprise Architect, Data Architect, Platform/Cloud engineers, mission engagement leads, cyber team, governance stakeholders, and vendor partners.
- Build NGA’s Enterprise Architecture (EA) Digital Twin capability, model the future-state enterprise, and deliver the unified Digital Engineering environment sought by the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD).
- Operate at the strategic level while remaining deeply technical, acting as a critical force multiplier for the Chief Architect and NGA’s Digital Transformation journey.
- Drive DE/MBSE leadership by establishing standards, governance, and model-centric transformation across NGA.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of DE/MBSE engineers to advance modeling, integration, and ecosystem maturation.
- Partner seamlessly with the tech lead, enterprise architect, data engineers, cloud/platform teams, cyber professionals, and mission engagement leads to deliver cohesive enterprise outcomes.
- Advise the Chief Architect and senior leadership with continuous assessments, insights, and recommendations to strengthen DE/MBSE capability and accelerate digital transformation agency-wide.
- Model end-to-end enterprise solutions—spanning capabilities, services, APIs, workflows, and data models—to architect a future-ready, resilient DEE.
- Collaborate with platform and data engineers to deploy applications, build Digital Threads, and automate pipelines that unify authoritative data sources and deliver high-fidelity engineering insights.
- Act as a key technical liaison with industry partners, leading technical exchanges, reconciling competing architectures, and driving consensus toward integrated, mission-focused solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, systems architecture, or enterprise architecture, including MBSE.
- 5+ years of experience leading systems engineering projects.
- Deep hands-on experience with SysML (v1.x minimum; v2 highly desired) and enterprise UAF modeling.
- Proficiency with Cameo Enterprise Architect, Teamwork Cloud, IBM Rhapsody, or similar tools.
- Experience modeling use cases and their associated workflows.
- Prior experience working within Scrum or Agile development environments.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with an active TS/SCI clearance and be eligible to obtain a CI Poly.
Qualifications
- Experience with UAF and early adoption of SysMLv2 (including textual modeling tools such as SysIDE).
- Experience integrating MBSE tools with Requirements Management Tools, MS&A, CAD/CAE, and Digital Thread technologies (e.g., Syndeia, ModelCenter).
- Prior trusted advisor experience supporting senior government technical leadership.
- Ability to automate model and data collection to assess DEE current state and quantify ROI relative to mission outcomes.
- Broad familiarity with the larger DEE tech stack (requirements tools, MS&A, DevSecOps platforms, EA/BI systems, data fabric technologies).
- Experience with data modeling and ontologies.
- Self-starter capable of automating data gathering to assess the current state of a Digital Ecosystem and evaluate ROI of assets vs. mission outcomes.
- Broader understanding and experience with the larger DEE tech stack, including requirements management, MS&A, SDLC/DevSecOps, EA tools, and data fabric.
- Desired to meet DoD 8140/8570 requirements for an IAM Level II position (e.g., ISC2 CISSP or Sec+).
