About the role
This night shift opportunity offers 8-hour shifts (9:00 PM – 5:30 AM or 9:30 PM – 6:00 AM), working 5 shifts per pay, with a rotating every other weekend schedule and 3 holidays per year. In this role, you’ll serve as the go-to leader on shift, supporting critical areas including Blood Bank, Automated Testing Lab (ATL), and Stat Microbiology, while guiding team members and helping drive high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Supervisor Designate: Act as supervisor when needed, communicate issues to higher management, participate in administrative call rotation.
- Competency: Help document staff competency, complete tasks on time.
- Operations: Perform Medical Technologist duties, maintain and troubleshoot instruments, review and report QC logs, compile QA data and assist with evaluations, help with staff scheduling.
- Role Model: Maintain confidentiality and professionalism, represent the lab on committees, follow reporting, appearance, and compliance policies, monitor attendance and tardiness.
- Purchasing and Inventory: Manage inventory levels, prevent supply issues, purchase supplies when needed.
- Training and Development: Learn new procedures quickly, stay updated on changes, train and support staff, develop and evaluate projects, author and revise procedures, deliver lectures and bench instruction.
Qualifications
- Lead MLS: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an accredited Medical Lab Scientist program, OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP or equivalent categorical or MLT certification, OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years’ experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
- Lead MLT: Three years’ experience with certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Four years’ experience without certification required, including two years’ experience in the host laboratory preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- ASCP or equivalent certification in medical technology (MT) or categorical certification preferred. Certification as a Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) preferred (only for HLA Laboratory).
