Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist - Central Processing Area
About the role
The Lead Medical Technologist supports daily operations within the Central Processing Area, with focused oversight of the send-out area and Lab Customer Service functions. This role assists with operational workflows, billing-related processes, and coordination of services to support accurate, timely, and efficient patient care. Responsibilities also include assisting with development and maintenance of learning materials, competency exams, and ongoing educational resources for staff. Administrative duties include providing training summaries, input on staff evaluations, technical procedure writing and implementation, supervision of staff, and record keeping. The Lead Medical Technologist works under the direction of the division director(s) and lab manager.
Responsibilities
- Support daily operations within the Central Processing Area.
- Provide focused oversight of the send-out area and Lab Customer Service functions.
- Assist with operational workflows, billing-related processes, and coordination of services.
- Support accurate, timely, and efficient patient care.
- Orient and train new staff within assigned areas.
- Participate in the interview process for Lab Customer Service candidates.
- Assist with development and maintenance of learning materials, competency exams, and ongoing educational resources for staff.
- Provide training summaries and input on staff evaluations.
- Write and implement technical procedures.
- Supervise staff and maintain records.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology and Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science.
- 2 years of relevant experience.
- ASCP certification required within 1 year of hire.
