About the role

The Medical Lab Scientist Lead (MLS Lead) functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis. This position performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation. The MLS Lead also participates in quality assurance and performance improvement tasks, new employee training, and proficiency testing as assigned. Additionally, the role involves leading a shift or co-leading a department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and special laboratory procedures
  • Conduct quality control and preventative maintenance
  • Perform minor equipment repairs
  • Manage inventory control and statistical compilation
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement tasks
  • Train new employees and conduct proficiency testing
  • Lead a shift or co-lead a department

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree OR Associates Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science
  • Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles
  • ASCP or equivalent certification within a specific area (e.g., M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP)). Certification must be maintained without lapse during employment; if certification lapses, the job will be downgraded to Medical Laboratory Scientist (non-certified) until certification is reinstated
  • Three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Lab Tech within a clinical laboratory

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of chemistry experience
