Lead Mechanic
About the role
The Lead Mechanic at Redpath USA Corporation is responsible for performing quality maintenance, preventative maintenance, diagnosis, disassembly, inspections, rebuilds, and reassembly on various types of mining equipment. This includes diesel, electrical, hydraulic, and air-operated components and equipment such as engines, power trains, hydraulics, fuel systems, power generation, electrical codes, and more.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions using service manuals, parts books, electrical, and hydraulic manuals.
- Perform preventative maintenance, general/major maintenance, and repairs, diagnostics, inspection, disassembly/assembly according to requirements in shop work orders.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure work meets manufacturer specifications.
- Operate various equipment including forklifts, aerial lifts, and service trucks.
- Document detailed repair estimates accurately, including parts and labor requirements.
- Familiar with underground mobile equipment braking regulations, testing, and adjusting such components.
- Comply with all Redpath USA Corporation and Owner's safety regulations and procedures.
- Operate and move various mine equipment for servicing.
- Understand and comply with confined space, fall protection, equipment isolation, and basic welding standards and procedures.
- Order parts accurately and complete all necessary paperwork involved.
- Ensure planned maintenance is carried out per the maintenance schedule.
- Able to perform basic welding and cutting.
- Perform safe and timely emergency repairs to equipment.
- Ensure that all spares and tools are available and serviceable.
- Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards.
- Perform Field Level Risk Assessments.
- Must be able to follow proper procedures to ensure safety and to control equipment damage.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced mechanics.
- Ensure that workers are qualified and capable of safely performing assigned work.
- Assist in the hiring, evaluation, commendation, disciplinary action, and dismissals regarding supervised staff, if applicable.
- Comply with daily, weekly, and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
- Comply with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations.
- Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.
Qualifications
- High School, GED, and/or higher education.
- Recognized trade certificate in the maintenance or repair field preferred.
- Documented maintenance experience of 7 years, with concentration in heavy equipment maintenance of mining equipment such as Haul Trucks, Dozers, Jumbo Drills, Hydraulic Shovels, Motor Graders, Front End Loaders, etc.
- Minimum 2 years experience in underground mining.
- Preferred 2 years supervisory and training experience.
- Full working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Strong leadership, managerial, training, and communication skills required.
- Full working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations pertaining to equipment.
- High level of attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Skills
- Read and understand materials commonly used in the product service and maintenance function (service and parts manuals, technical bulletins, and other related articles).
- Extensive technical/mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment as related to mining.
- Capable of reading & understanding electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experienced in using basic electrical instruments and testers.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in using Engine/Powertrain Diagnostic Software, both handheld and computer-based.
- Strong knowledge in braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, payload systems, compressed air systems, engine tune-up requirements, electronic engine controls, drive trains, and electric drive haul truck braking/dynamic systems.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations pertaining to equipment.
- Experience with OEM maintenance repair manuals and schematics.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations pertaining to equipment.
- High level of attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Competitive compensation and benefits are provided.
