Job Description

Patriot Disposal / Apple Valley Waste is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join their fleet maintenance team. This role involves ensuring waste collection vehicles and heavy-duty equipment are maintained and operating at peak efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic tests, maintenance, and repairs on diesel-powered waste management trucks and heavy equipment, including rear-load, front-load, and roll-off trucks.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance services, such as engine checks, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire replacements.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and replace worn or damaged parts, including brake systems, engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and air systems.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, hours worked, and services performed.
  • Work closely with other mechanics and supervisors to prioritize repairs and efficiently manage the fleet maintenance schedule.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Working as a diesel mechanic, preferably with waste management, heavy equipment, or truck fleets preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and air brake systems; ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
  • Tools and Equipment: Experience using diagnostic tools, mechanical hand tools, and power tools to complete repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Certifications: A valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is a plus.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training in diesel mechanics is preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 70lbs and perform tasks in varying weather conditions, including working in tight spaces and on heavy equipment.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and the ability to track and manage multiple repair projects simultaneously.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly diagnose and solve mechanical problems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum vehicle availability.
