About the role

The Lead Mechanic position is responsible for the general day-to-day operation of vehicle maintenance and repair of all company trucks, trailers, forklifts and other company equipment. This position reports to the Fleet Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Mentors other mechanics.
  • Performs all preventive maintenance and repair work necessary on fleet trucks, trailers, forklifts and other company equipment.
  • Compiles the work schedule in the truck shop and completes any documentation on maintenance records.
  • Reviews driver vehicle inspection reports.
  • Maintains a clean environment.
  • Interprets repair manuals and work orders to properly repair the equipment.
  • Responsible for being familiar with and observing all company safety rules and regulations; recognizes safety as the top company priority; attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.
  • Uses all safety equipment as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 5-7+ years of prior work experience as a mechanic, to include:
    • Ability to service and diagnose brakes.
    • Ability to service and diagnose diesel trucks, (tractor/trailers) and power-train mechanics.
    • AC Certification Required.
    • Class A CDL, with Tanker Endorsement.
    • Demonstrated experience leading a team.
  • Vocational school training preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of vehicle maintenance and operations.
  • Superior time management skills.
  • Self-motivated; self-starter.
  • Good math and computer skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read, interpret and comply with all company policies, rules, safety manuals and procedures.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (Sit).
  • Must be able to move about inside/outside office or work location (Walk).
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other office machinery (Use hands to finger, handle or feel).
  • Must be able to position oneself to maintain computers in the lab, including under desks and in the server closet (Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl).
  • Must be able to ascend/descend on a ladder (Climb or balance).
  • Must be able to use senses to; effectively communicate with co-workers and clients and detect hazardous conditions (Talk, hear, taste, smell).
  • Up to 10 pounds.
  • Up to 25 pounds.
  • Up to 50 pounds.
  • More than 100 pounds.
