About the role
The Lead Mechanic position is responsible for the general day-to-day operation of vehicle maintenance and repair of all company trucks, trailers, forklifts and other company equipment. This position reports to the Fleet Manager.
Responsibilities
- Mentors other mechanics.
- Performs all preventive maintenance and repair work necessary on fleet trucks, trailers, forklifts and other company equipment.
- Compiles the work schedule in the truck shop and completes any documentation on maintenance records.
- Reviews driver vehicle inspection reports.
- Maintains a clean environment.
- Interprets repair manuals and work orders to properly repair the equipment.
- Responsible for being familiar with and observing all company safety rules and regulations; recognizes safety as the top company priority; attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.
- Uses all safety equipment as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- 5-7+ years of prior work experience as a mechanic, to include:
- Ability to service and diagnose brakes.
- Ability to service and diagnose diesel trucks, (tractor/trailers) and power-train mechanics.
- AC Certification Required.
- Class A CDL, with Tanker Endorsement.
- Demonstrated experience leading a team.
- Vocational school training preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of vehicle maintenance and operations.
- Superior time management skills.
- Self-motivated; self-starter.
- Good math and computer skills.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read, interpret and comply with all company policies, rules, safety manuals and procedures.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (Sit).
- Must be able to move about inside/outside office or work location (Walk).
- Must be able to operate a computer and other office machinery (Use hands to finger, handle or feel).
- Must be able to position oneself to maintain computers in the lab, including under desks and in the server closet (Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl).
- Must be able to ascend/descend on a ladder (Climb or balance).
- Must be able to use senses to; effectively communicate with co-workers and clients and detect hazardous conditions (Talk, hear, taste, smell).
- Up to 10 pounds.
- Up to 25 pounds.
- Up to 50 pounds.
- More than 100 pounds.
