Lead Material Handler, Service Distribution
About the role
You will oversee and support day-to-day operations in Tesla’s warehouse and production environments, ensuring smooth material flow and inventory accuracy. This role involves managing material movement to and from the production line, training team members, and maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Responsibilities
- Organize and maintain the warehouse layout to ensure all materials are accessible, identifiable, properly labeled, and stored in compliance with 5S standards for optimal efficiency and safety
- Conduct and document accurate inventory counts, cycle audits, and reconciliations to maintain high inventory accuracy and support production needs
- Complete and manage auditable records, including packing slips, pick lists, job closeout paperwork, and other documentation using warehouse systems
- Utilize computer software and scanners to receive, issue, track, and update materials in real time, ensuring seamless material flow to production areas
- Lead daily material operations by monitoring needs for assigned production zones, adjusting manpower and resources to meet delivery targets, and driving continuous improvements in safety, quality, and productivity
- Train, develop, and mentor team members through structured plans, cross-training, rotations, and hands-on guidance to build team capability and performance
- Safely operate material handling equipment (forklifts, tuggers, pallet jacks, flatbed carts, etc.) to transport, load, unload, and prepare materials to/from production lines and staging areas while enforcing PPE usage, safety protocols, and collaboration with cross-functional teams
Requirements
Current Tesla Supply Chain experience preferred
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to mentor and manage a team effectively
Experience with technology and troubleshooting, including laptops, scanners, Microsoft Office-based systems, and other data entry tools preferred
Positive, team-oriented attitude with a track record of meeting goals and completing tasks
Commitment to adhering to safety standards and creating a culture of continuous improvement
Experience with heavy equipment such as forklifts, tuggers, pallet jacks, and flatbed carts, Forklift certification preferred
Qualifications
Essential Physical Demands: Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours/day Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 50 lbs. The ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install vehicle parts of varying size and weight overhead, accurately and in allotted timeframes Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours/day Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing Demonstrated ability to handle and manipulate tooling and mechanically fasten bolts within required cycle time, quickly and accurately during new hire training and maintaining ability throughout employment Exposures to hazardous materials used in the painting process and ability to follow waste handling/disposal procedures Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, hearing protection, full-face respirators, gloves, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
