Your work will directly support critical production systems, improve consistency across manufacturing sites, reduce technical and cybersecurity risk, and enable secure modernization of legacy OT environments while maintaining operational continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Design and partner with the Security team to implement secure OT architectures, network segmentation, defense-in-depth controls, secure remote access, and technical remediation strategies for manufacturing environments.
  • Engineer resilient OT infrastructure solutions, including compute, virtualization, networking, backups, redundancy, power protection, and recovery capabilities that support critical production requirements.
  • Develop standardized industrial software architectures, reusable templates, libraries, naming conventions, and frameworks that can be deployed consistently across manufacturing sites.
  • Evaluate IoT and IIoT components, including embedded devices, controllers, gateways, firmware, communications protocols, authentication, encryption, interfaces, and update mechanisms.
  • Translate OT cybersecurity, engineering, and regulatory requirements into executable designs, validation methods, remediation strategies, and technical governance practices.
  • Mentor technical teams and help establish standards that improve consistency, reliability, and long-term sustainability across 3M’s global manufacturing technology landscape.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a Technical field (completed and verified prior to start).
  • Professional Engineering or Advanced Technical Credentials – Professional Engineer license, advanced engineering credentials, advanced technical certifications, or equivalent demonstrated technical leadership in the design and delivery of complex industrial systems.
  • Fifteen (15) years of experience designing, implementing, or supporting industrial controls, automation, OT systems, or manufacturing technology environments in a private, public, government, or military environment.
  • Eight (8) years of experience with OT security architecture, network segmentation, secure remote access, industrial software platforms, controls engineering, or OT infrastructure resilience.
  • Eight (8) years of experience leading technical initiatives across manufacturing, critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, engineering, automation, or industrial technology environments.
  • Current, valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Senior OT / Controls Engineering Experience – 15+ years of progressive experience designing, implementing, and supporting industrial controls, automation, and OT systems in complex manufacturing or critical-infrastructure environments.
  • OT Security Engineering & Architecture – Demonstrated experience translating OT security requirements into implementable engineering standards, secure architectures, segmentation strategies, defense-in-depth controls, secure remote access, and technical remediation approaches while maintaining production availability.
  • Industrial Software Architecture & Standardization – Advanced experience designing industrial software architectures and developing reusable templates, libraries, naming conventions, standards, and development frameworks for platforms such as Ignition or equivalent industrial application platforms.
  • IoT / IIoT Component-Level Security & Engineering – Experience evaluating connected industrial devices at the component level, including controllers, gateways, embedded systems, firmware, communications protocols, authentication, encryption, interfaces, update mechanisms, and secure integration into OT environments.
  • OT Infrastructure & Resilience Engineering – Experience engineering OT compute, virtualization, networking, backups, UPS and power protection, redundancy, recovery, and resilience solutions capable of supporting critical-line RTO/RPO requirements.
  • OT Standards, Compliance & Technical Governance – Ability to translate OT cybersecurity, engineering, and regulatory requirements into executable designs, processes, validation methods, remediation strategies, and technical governance practices supporting critical-line compliance and requirements such as NIS2, MLPS, and TISAX.
