All New Heavy Diesel Engine Machine Shop, Savannah, GA, Performance Power Systems (30+ year Authorized Caterpillar Marine Dealer) is opening a brand-new Heavy Diesel Engine Machining Division in Savannah, built around new Rottler equipment — and we're looking for the machinist who wants to lead it. About the RoleThis is a manual machining role for someone with real engine experience — not CNC production work and not general tool & die. If your background is blocks, heads, cranks, and cams — not fixtures and job-shop parts — this is built for you. Responsibilities • Machine engine blocks, cylinder heads, connecting rods, camshafts, flywheels, valve guides, and valve seats using manual methods and precision hand-fitting • Perform manual cylinder boring, honing, block decking, line boring, and line honing • Operate manual machine tools and Rottler machining equipment (manual-style setup and operation, not CNC programming) • Use micrometers, dial bore gauges, dial indicators and precision measuring equipment. • Read OEM specifications and engineering drawings. • Assist with equipment installation and commissioning. • Help develop shop procedures and quality standards. • Maintain inspection and machining documentation. • Maintain a safe, clean and organized shop. Qualifications5+ years of manual machining experienceHands-on with diesel or automotive engine components - blocks, heads, cranks, cams, valve guides/seatsComfortable with cylinder boring, honing, line boring/honing, and block deckingBonus points for Rottler, Sunnen, Serdi, or Kwik-Way time, and Cat/Cummins/Detroit/MTU/Volvo Penta experience Required SkillsManual machining experienceExperience with diesel or automotive engine componentsComfort with cylinder boring and honing Preferred SkillsExperience with Rottler, Sunnen, Serdi, or Kwik-WayExperience with Cat/Cummins/Detroit/MTU/Volvo Penta Pay range and compensation package💰 $40–$50/hour DOE + Overtime🩺 Full medical/dental/vision, company-paid STD/LTD/Life 🏖️ PTO, 401k) 🚚 Relocation assistance is available for the right person Equal Opportunity State We're not looking for someone to just run a machine.
