About the role
The Lead Line Engineer is responsible for high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage transmission and distribution line designs for all operating companies in Avangrid Networks. The position reports to the Unit Manager for Line Projects but works day-to-day in a cross-functional project team and supports project needs as dictated by the NYSEG project manager(s).
Responsibilities
- Capital project engineering performance including all phases such as scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction, and closeout.
- Leading and creating new conceptual designs and overseeing the work of external detailed designers.
- Proactively identifying and performing special projects and studies that innovatively solve unique and complex problems with broad impact to the business.
- Solving unique and complex engineering problems. Identifying innovative solutions.
- Developing and validating information needed for engineering analyses and applying engineering judgment to solve technical problems.
- Ensuring all engineering designs meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
- Representing the company on regional and national committees when needed.
- Utilizing knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.
- Mentoring, developing, and supporting team in technical skills.
- Collaborating across departments.
- Liaising/directing contractors on company policy, standards, and best practices.
- Working independently with little supervision.
Requirements
- Technical Skills/Competencies: Theoretical Engineering knowledge, Practical engineering experience/application, Engineering documentation, Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment, Computer literacy.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management; Professional Engineering License preferred.
- Preferred Qualifications: General Skills: Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, Proven ability to lead and manage projects, Strong communication and interpersonal skills, Strong management and leadership skills, Knowledge of the regulatory environment, Contract, commercial and regulatory awareness, Effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management, Awareness and understanding of key business drivers, Knowledge of construction and maintenance standards, Knowledge of engineering standards and specifications up to 345kV, Knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations, CAD Drafting, Company Procedures, Processes and Standards, Construction and Outage Sequencing, Industry Codes, Standards, and Regulations, PLS-CADD Modeling, Project Scoping and Estimating, Technical Writing and Communication, Foundation Design, Overhead Transmission Line Layout, Surveying, Transmission Equipment Specifications, Transmission Line Maintenance, Transmission Material Selection, Transmission Service Specifications, Underground Transmission Line Design.
