Lead Kafka Engineer

This position follows our hybrid workstyle policy: expected to be in a Raymond James office location a minimum of 10-12 days a month. Please note: this role is not eligible for work visa sponsorship, either currently or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement specialized code supporting interfaces between business application systems and a data warehouse
• Work with Confluent Kafka and Apache Kafka, including architecture, components, and tuning
• Use Confluent Schema Registry
• Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform on AWS
• Utilize AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda
• Support Kafka Connect using Linux Virtual Machines
• Program in languages such as Java or Python
• Apply Spark Streaming and Apache Flink (desirable)
• Apply SRE concepts, including monitoring and observability tools like Splunk, DataDog, Dynatrace, and CloudWatch for customer support and application health checks
• Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Exhibit strong communication and collaboration skills

Requirements

• 10 years of relevant development or engineering experience or a combination of education, training, and experience
• Bachelor’s degree (required)
• 6 to 10 years of general experience
• Financial services industry knowledge is a plus
• Travel: less than 25%

Pay
