Overview
We are seeking a Lead Java Cloud Engineer with strong experience designing and developing enterprise-level APIs in cloud environments. This role focuses on API development, AWS/EKS, cloud databases, and API management platforms. The ideal candidate has a strong Java background, experience building scalable applications, and the ability to collaborate across teams on high-visibility projects.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise software applications.
- Build and support RESTful APIs deployed in cloud environments.
- Develop software solutions using Java and Spring technologies.
- Work with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, reliable applications.
- Participate in architecture discussions, system enhancements, and code reviews.
- Create and execute unit and integration tests.
- Support CI/CD and DevOps processes.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of Java development experience.
- Strong experience developing APIs in cloud environments, preferably AWS and EKS.
- Experience with cloud databases such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
- Experience onboarding and managing APIs through API Management platforms (IBM API Connect/APIC preferred).
- Strong knowledge of Spring Framework, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Integration.
- Experience with RESTful web services and SOA architectures.
- Experience with JUnit and/or TestNG.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Experience working in CI/CD and DevOps environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with API Management tools.
- Experience with Git and BitBucket.
- Exposure to COBOL environments (CICS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, ChangeMan, Topaz).
This position requires onsite presence in Reston, VA once per week. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance.
