The Lead ESS Installation Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects for our clients, as well as leading and overseeing the work of other installation technicians at the work site. This position is the key field position for the bulk of the actual work that gets done in our clients’ buildings.

The Lead Install Tech needs to coordinate with project management, field superintendents and others to fully understand their role on specific projects. They interpret our drawing packages to create the basis of the finished systems. The installation can include rack and enclosure build outs, panel terminations, IPing of devices, device installation, testing and troubleshooting. The Lead Tech will be responsible for our most complex system designs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the work of other ESS Installation Technicians on a given project site, while also performing as an Installation Technician.
  • Know and learn what is on the BOM for every job and know the material required for your job.
  • Maintain timeline of job schedule with regards to when devices/head end work needs to be installed and terminated. Communicate any delays to the site supervisor ASAP.
  • Take ownership of job schedules for workload given to you. Prioritize your time properly and be able to manage multiple tasks at any given time.
  • Maintain constant communication with the Site Supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Point out any/all problems found on drawings/matrix to Site Supervisor ASAP.
  • Communicate with Site Supervisor ASAP if equipment is missing/defective.
  • Help Site Supervisor with inventory if and when needed (maintain an online copy on OneNote).
  • Keep written records on One Note of:
    • Work accomplished with technicians/trades (sub-contractors, GC, EC)
    • Project issues
    • Problems that may arise
    • Site Readiness Document
    • Site Inventory (kept up to date, at minimum, on a monthly basis)
    • Redlines/RFIs (if required)
  • Communicate the need for assistance and guidance for any work required for the job, including labor problems and technical issues.
  • Assist installation technicians on questions or concerns with installation of devices/head end work.
  • Perform tasks on clients’ job sites with no supervision, coordinating with clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Delegate work, monitor others' work, and communicate with key stakeholders on behalf of the Project Manager.
  • Maintain and wear appropriate PPE as required by the job and tasks.
  • Ensure hazards are addressed and rectified in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High school or GED equivalent.
  • 3+ years of hands-on, recent experience installing access control and video surveillance cameras in a large-scale commercial environment, preferably including data centers and new construction.
  • Experience supervising the work of others and providing helpful feedback.
  • Ability to train and coach others to Diversified standards.
  • Ability to understand access control/CCTV systems, install anything ACS, CCTV, intercom related, and troubleshoot and fix problems during installation.
  • Proficiency with the following software: Teams, Outlook, OneNote, BlueBeam, Adobe Reader.
  • Knowledge of the following document types: Project drawings, Programming Matrix, SRDs, UILs, Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs), Task Hazard Analysis (THAs), Risk Hazard Analysis (RHAs), RFIs, Redlines.
  • Ability to review and understand Matrix Drawings, BOM Lists, SRDs.
  • Ability to maintain the schedule given for the job and follow DIV28 specifications for quality control.
  • Experience with the following systems: Genetec, Avigilon, Lenel, AMAG, S2, Honeywell, Software House, Bosch, DMP.
  • Knowledge in mechanical retrofitting of door frames and gates for electric locking hardware and peripheral devices.
  • Knowledge of accessing network interfaces for connection to devices such as access controllers, IP cameras, intercoms, switches, etc.
  • Experience and familiarity with PC admin level changes to connect to IP cameras and the aiming/adjustment of cameras.
  • Clean driving record and ability to operate a vehicle.
  • Clean criminal record and ability to hold a security clearance/registration for your local jurisdiction (DCJS, TS Clearance, etc.).
  • Active Passport, or the ability to obtain one, and ability to travel regularly.
  • Able to work indoors/outdoors, standing, sitting, and using ladders.
  • Able to lift 40lbs.

Preferred: Lenel Certification.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. The employee may be exposed to construction site conditions on a regular basis and is responsible for their safety while on job sites, complying with all safety regulations in place by the GC. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites.

  • Spend at least 50% of their time on their feet and mobile around the construction site.
  • Ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs, and lift and/or move materials up to 40 pounds in construction areas.
  • Regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment, and controls required for system installation projects.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth vision.
  • When not on construction sites, experience normal office conditions and use office equipment such as computers and peripherals.
