About the role

The Lead ICT Engineer will collaborate with design and engineering staff to oversee full-cycle ICT design activities for mission-critical hyperscale and colocation data center and smart building/city projects. This role involves close interaction with organizational leadership to develop and refine project specifications and lead design development efforts. The Lead ICT Engineer will be self-directed in day-to-day work while receiving high-level guidance on new projects or assignments, lead project teams of complex scope, and help develop and manage broader programs. This position requires alignment with organizational goals, values, and departmental objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead ICT Engineering Design Activities (40%)
    • Independently perform advanced engineering work, including ICT design tasks and computation analysis for complex projects, components, and systems.
    • Develop scalable fiber optic and copper plant designs, determining physical layer routes and utilization.
    • Use Revit software to prepare drawings and visual aids.
    • Review and/or prepare book or sheet specifications.
    • Manage project design teams, including resource forecasting and coordination.
    • Identify potential project scope changes and develop strategies to minimize impact on costs and deadlines.
    • Perform QA/QC peer reviews for projects where not the lead design engineer.
  • Lead Construction Activities (20%)
    • Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports.
    • Collect data and prepare construction documents.
    • Lead the engineering team and collaborate closely with the project management team.
    • Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, punch lists, and project closeout documents.
    • Review and approve change order requests.
  • Business Development and Stakeholder Relations (20%)
    • Develop proposals, including project scope, schedule, and budget.
    • Ensure project execution aligns with company policies and client value systems.
    • Serve as primary client contact and may act as a Client Program Manager with business development responsibilities.
    • Assist with research for technical papers for conferences and journals.
  • Organizational Development and Continuous Improvement (20%)
    • Mentor associates and assist with training and development.
    • Contribute to organizational training and standards development.
    • Assist in strategic planning and hiring processes.
    • Ensure timely and on-budget completion of assigned tasks and deliverables.
  • Technology, Digital Tools & AI-Enabled Efficiency
    • Identify opportunities and lead the strategic use of technology, digital platforms, and AI-enabled tools to enhance efficiency through workflow automation and improved accuracy in forecasting, documentation, and reporting.
    • Support adoption of emerging technologies, including advanced analytics, data visualization tools, and digital construction management platforms.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure technology solutions align with DLB standards for data security, privacy, and operational integrity.
    • Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and strategic technology use to optimize performance and scalability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products.
  • Advanced knowledge of ICT structured cabling design technologies and standards.
  • Experience with Revit or other Computer-Aided Design tools.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and optimize operational processes.
  • Strong attention to detail in completing assignments accurately.
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills for preparing documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical and non-technical information.
  • Ability to serve as a primary client contact and communicate effectively with clients.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to thrive in a remote work environment through effective communication, self-motivation, proactiveness, and resourcefulness in a distraction-free workspace.

Travel

Up to 10% travel may be required, including travel to any or all 50 U.S. states. Travel includes physically leaving home for business activities such as client sites, meetings, business development, industry conferences, and other work-related errands.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Registered Communications Distribution Design (RCDD) Certificate preferred.
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Certification preferred.
  • Experience with Revit modeling software.
  • Minimum of eight years of engineering or related field experience.
  • At least two years of experience working on Mission Critical Data Center design projects.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $126,788 – $162,107 per year (Remote, United States).
