Lead HVAC Mechanic

About the role

This position is in the Facilities Operation and Maintenance department. Inspects, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance to various heating and air conditioning systems. The position works on critical infrastructure under Texas Executive Order GA-48, requiring the ability to maintain the security and integrity of university infrastructure, including routine reviews of criminal history and foreign adversary connections.

Responsibilities

• Inspect the operation of HVAC systems and assign or perform preventative maintenance schedules.
• Assign and inspect completed work and work in progress.
• Provide technical direction to other HVAC mechanics.
• Perform emergency repairs when necessary.
• Work special assignments during emergencies.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas driver's license required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of directly job‑related experience.
• Technical certification or licensing directly related to the job (as specified in the job description addendum).
• Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions (percentages, ratios, etc.).
• Education verification will be conducted upon acceptance of an employment offer.
• Position is security sensitive; a criminal history check will be conducted.
