About the role

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is seeking a Lead Hazard Reduction Program Risk Assessor in our Environmental Health (EH) Division to support the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Lead Hazard Control Grant Program. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of the grant program by managing program deliverables, facilitating enrollments, and overseeing project completion in Southeastern Minnesota.

Responsibilities

• Establishing strong working relationships with local partners, property owners, and families to promote participation in the program.
• Navigating complex grant policies, applying problem-solving skills to adapt federal, state, and departmental regulations to real-world scenarios.
• Providing technical guidance and consultation to the public, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders.
• Ensuring that program funds are used effectively to advance health equity by reducing lead exposure and other housing-related hazards, ultimately improving public health outcomes.

• Must be a licensed lead risk assessor in the State of Minnesota or become licensed within six (6) months of hire and must possess two (2) years of experience which includes at least two of the following:
• Carrying out environmental inspections/risk assessments.
• Program enrollment coordination.
• Performing lead education in a public health setting or performing program outreach.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of lead hazard reduction strategies and healthy housing principles.
• Experience managing grant deliverables.
• Project management experience involving multiple stakeholders.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and agency policies and program regulations.
• The ability to speak fluently in Spanish, Somali, Karen, or Arabic.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to bend from the waist or stoop by bending the knees.
• Ability to walk on even, uneven, and sloping ground.
• Ability to work in a variety of indoor environments.
• Ability to physically travel distances subject to weather elements to access areas of properties evaluated in varying indoor/outdoor temperatures.

• This position requires the employee to have a flexible schedule to be able to accommodate travel.
• This position requires successful completion of a background check and employment reference check.
• This position does not require a driver's license; however, it does demand travel which the candidate is responsible for meeting.
