Lead Firearms Instructor - Part Time / on Call
Job Description
Lead Firearms Instructors (LFIs) are the first point of contact for Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDO) when they arrive at the training venue; responsible for checking them in, verifying weapons and credentials, conducting training, and overseeing the course of fire at the gun-range. LFIs ensure the safety of all personnel on the range and secure SSI and SPII information during and after requalification sessions.
HOW A LEAD FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
- Conduct all classroom instruction, delivering the approved TSA training and safety brief, introducing and describing new equipment, and ensuring all students understand and sign the safety briefing.
- Maintain a minimum number of SFIs to maintain an instructor/student ratio of 1:6 for each training session.
- Ensure a sufficient inventory of training supplies is on-hand at the training venue to support monthly requalification sessions.
- Maintain positive control of the training environment from the moment students arrive to the moment they depart.
- Verify weapons and credentials of each FFDO before training commences by visual inspection.
- Ensure proper scoring of targets, completion of applicable administrative forms, and collection of training data.
- Sign and certify qualification scores for all FFDOs attempting to qualify.
- Handle weapons and ammunition in the course of their duties; wear hearing protection due to high volumes of noise; and wash hands after handling ammunition.
- Comply with internal compliance training events.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
- Education/Equivalent Training: Current or former federal law enforcement agent; officer; or civilian employee having completed a recognized federal firearm instructor training program deemed acceptable by the TSA/FAMS.
- Experience: 5 years of firearms training experience; Associates Degree; or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work/military experience.
UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Working Conditions: Indoor or outdoor gun range; handling weapons and ammunition; exposure to high volumes of noise and expelled gunpowder.
