Opportunity

Reporting to the Estimating Manager for Aecon’s Civil US Projects division, the Lead Estimator – Structures will bid $100M+ heavy civil infrastructure projects in the United States. The position is based in Kent, Washington and works as part of a larger team to deliver estimates for one or more bid tenders simultaneously. Candidates with extensive civil construction experience, especially in bridge structures, and those looking to transition into estimating or return to field work are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accuracy of bid cost compared to actual cost of work performed.
• Analyze documents, drawings, specifications, proposals, and addendums for pricing preparation.
• Communicate estimates orally and in writing with clients and partners.
• Prepare construction plans for internal and client submissions.
• Review project sites prior to price preparation.
• Perform quantity take‑offs from construction drawings where applicable.
• Obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors and compile information into estimates.
• Formulate all costs for tender submission—including labor, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
• Oversee distribution of appropriate documentation upon award of a project.
• Conduct post‑bid and post‑project analysis, ensuring associated learning and communication occur.
• Assist with RFPs, general contract tender submissions, pre‑qualification submissions, RFQs, and RFIs as required.
• Incorporate and comply with Aecon’s risk‑management policies and procedures.
• Protect all forms of proprietary information.
• Maintain estimating data systems to keep them up‑to‑date.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of experience in civil construction, with a strong emphasis on bridge structures, including experience leading complex bridge and civil infrastructure projects or bids as an Estimator or Project Manager.
• University degree, college diploma, trades background, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documents.
• Good knowledge of job‑cost fundamentals for typical items and scopes where design or schematics have been provided.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with estimating software is an asset.
• Proven organizational skills and ability to manage time to meet multiple deadlines in a high‑pressure environment.
• Effective teamwork and communication abilities.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
• Adaptability to a flexible work schedule when needed to meet deadlines.

Pay

Pay Range: $140,000 – $185,000 per year. Individual compensation is determined based on factors such as work location, education, experience, unique skills, job conditions, certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
