Key Responsibilities
- Screen, select, train, develop, and evaluate personnel to meet service commitments.
- Ensure operators perform tasks knowledgeably, productively, and safely.
- Ensure operators complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and reports, daily equipment report, operational forms, and other documentation daily.
- Provide feedback to the Operations Supervisor regarding operators' productivity, work performance, etc., daily.
- Aid in resolving customer and operator concerns.
- Operate equipment as necessary.
- Ensure operators complete Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs).
- Communicate equipment/vehicle mechanical problems to the supervisor immediately.
- Maintain operational quality standards as determined by management.
- Follow all safety and equipment checks and precautions in performance of all duties.
- Comply with all federal, state/provincial, local, and company rules on safety and vehicle operation.
- Aid the Operations Supervisor with accident investigations and prepare necessary paperwork.
- Attend and assist with safety and branch meetings.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired.
- Completion of forklift certification.
- Ability to obtain Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification if needed.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Ability to operate any type of equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with others.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations that apply to the job.
- Ability to write simple reports and correspondence such as pre- and post-trip inspections, accident reports, daily paperwork, etc.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple correspondence and instructions such as company policies and procedures, etc.
- Ability to apply common sense reasoning to carry out written and/or oral instructions and to solve general problems.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision.
- Ability to regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
- Sitting is required 75% of the time due to the primary function of operating.
- Physical/Mental Demands: Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes and airborne particles; Occasionally work in high precarious places; Work in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly.
- Visual Requirements: include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus due to the constant maneuvering of the vehicle in tight and high traffic areas.
Physical Demands
- Frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
- Sitting is required 75% of the time due to the primary function of operating.
Working Conditions
- Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes and airborne particles.
- Occasionally work in high precarious places.
- Work in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly.
