About the role

Deliver medium and low voltage electrical design solutions for outdoor and unit substations, power transformers, protection and control schemes, and related EPC projects in both brownfield and greenfield environments. Develop equipment specifications, review field data, and perform system studies including coordination, short circuit, and arc flash analysis. Collaborate with CAD staff to produce and update electrical drawings, provide technical recommendations based on power monitoring data, and act as a Qualus representative to support sales during customer site walks. Lead cross-functional interactions to ensure optimal project outcomes, including resource planning, project kickoff participation, adherence to safety standards, and coordination with suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Medium and low voltage electrical design for outdoor substations, unit substations, power transformers, protection and control schemes, power monitoring, circuit breaker replacements, relay replacements, and brownfield/greenfield EPC projects.
  • Develop specifications for medium and low voltage electrical equipment.
  • Work with CAD staff to develop and update client electrical drawings, including one-lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Review field data and perform coordination, short circuit, and arc flash studies.
  • Analyze power monitoring data to provide customer recommendations.
  • Act as a Qualus representative to support sales during customer site walks.
  • Lead cross-functional interactions to determine optimum solutions.
  • Maintain current safety and technical training; adhere to company, industry, and client safety protocols.
  • Assess project-specific resource needs and coordinate assignments with the project manager.
  • Communicate core technical job requirements and support workload planning.
  • Coordinate project handoff between sales and operations/engineering.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings to discuss scope, specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate invoicing by providing documentation such as Service Acknowledgement Forms (SAFs), weekly timekeeping, change orders, and test reports.
  • Consult and coordinate with suppliers to meet material and equipment needs.
  • Up to 30% travel may be required for training and visiting customer job sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited institution, preferably with a focus on power systems.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License required.
  • 10+ years of design engineering experience in primary power distribution, protection and control (P&C) schemes, and/or electrical equipment.
  • Experience developing relay protective setpoints and settings files.
  • Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, ANSI C57, ANSI C37, NESC, and other applicable codes and standards for substation and industrial power distribution design.
  • 5+ years of AutoCAD experience.
  • 5+ years using power systems modeling software such as ETAP, SKM, and/or EasyPower.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to discuss technical recommendations with customers.
  • Ability to work independently with high attention to detail.
