About the role

Crown Technical Systems, a Flex Company, seeks to add a Lead Electrical Test Technician to its team in USA, Fontana Ca. Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Assistant Manager, this role involves overseeing a team of employees in completing electrical testing of manufactured projects and performing complex electrical testing during the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the work of assigned team employees.
  • Addresses minor discipline problems with team members; refers more serious cases to the supervisor.
  • Aids in the planning and preparation of training for new team members.
  • Collaborates with team members to discuss upcoming work assignments; delegates assignments based on team members' skills and experience.
  • Assists team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments.
  • Partners with supervisor or engineering manager to resolve any issues that arise within the department.
  • Maintains testing status daily; gathers feedback from all test technicians.
  • Follows AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams to perform testing of main electrical distribution AC/DC systems for power distribution control houses and panels.
  • Works closely with engineering and production team members to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely execution of required testing work.
  • Collaborates with engineering and production team members to troubleshoot and resolve any field issues that may arise.
  • Drafts detailed technical reports to present findings; based on findings, recommends modifications needed to correct production problems.
  • Performs full functional testing on various circuits including HVAC system, lighting, receptacles, fans, fire alarm systems, battery system, and meggering of cables.
  • Completes complete testing including current/voltage injections, Hi-Potential Testing, I/O checks, and circuit breaker simulation testing on Relay Panels and Switchgear.
  • Carries out Factory Acceptance Testing with customers as required.
  • Visits customer sites to troubleshoot and resolve any field issues that may arise.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree in electrical engineering or related field required.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • At least 4 years of experience in power distribution electrical testing or related field.
  • Relevant experience leading a team.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and single line diagrams.
  • Knowledge in testing of three phase AC and DC control circuits.
  • Knowledge in testing protection relays and switchgear.
  • Knowledge of power distribution, breakers, current and potential transformers, protection relays, and switchgear.
  • Familiarity with protection relay software such as Schweitzer, AcSELerator, and GE Enervista UR.
  • Good working knowledge of standard electrical testing and measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Safety Procedures and NEC Codes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to discuss product flaws in a constructive and positive manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare test reports and proposals.

Qualifications

  • Periods of standing, walking, and sitting at a desk using a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to traverse production facility to complete testing.
  • Must be able to travel to customer sites when necessary.
  • Must wear PPE, such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hat, and ear protection, while working on the production floor.
