Lead Electrical Engineer
About the role
We're looking for a Senior Power Engineer who can lead and manage design teams, mentor less experienced engineers, and contribute to reliable, resilient, and sustainable power systems. This role involves leading projects from schematic design to contract documents, managing client contacts, and preparing detailed design packages for various facilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and coordinate schematic design development and contract document phases of projects.
- Mentor and develop less experienced electrical engineers and designers.
- Coordinate workload to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
- Be a primary client contact for projects with significant electrical scope.
- Conduct field visits at project sites with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
- Prepare detailed design packages for generation and storage facilities.
- Prepare engineering calculations and reports such as load flow, short circuit, grounding, and arc flash studies.
- Support modification projects including relay protection upgrades, inverter replacements, plant control system upgrades, excitation, governor, and power system upgrades.
- Prepare major plant equipment specifications for generators, transformers, motors, switchgear, inverters, motor control centers, PLCs, and DCS control systems.
- Coordinate power plant electrical engineering design efforts with other HDR disciplines and project personnel.
- Perform cable, raceway, and equipment sizing calculations.
- Develop I/O lists and interface with plant control systems.
- Prepare testing and commissioning plans.
- Review engineering work deliverables following HDR Quality Process.
- Provide project team leadership and provide internal and external technical status updates as needed.
- Maintain good relationships with peers, client organizations, vendor representatives, and sub-consultants.
- Identify and develop new strategic relationships to support winning and executing assignments.
- Occasionally travel to support project needs.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Previous proposal development and client management experience.
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in project execution with the Power Market Sector.
- Engineering experience in simple/combined cycle gas turbines, renewables, coal, and hydroelectric.
- Knowledge of large-scale power generation electrical and control systems.
- Prior experience in a consulting engineering environment.
- Electrical System Design Software knowledge such as PVsys, PVcase, ETAP, SKM, and/or CDEGS.
- Experience developing proposals and estimates for Power Generation and Renewable projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Professional Engineering (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $125,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
Schedule
This role is full-time and based in the United States, with locations in Tampa, West Palm Beach, Doral, Jacksonville, and Orlando.
