This is a full-time, on-site position at the TRISO-X Fuel Fabrication Facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

About the Role

You will lead a group on challenging projects involving the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of a wide variety of electrical engineering issues to support single and multi-discipline projects. Most projects require multi-discipline interface and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts performed by group members to ensure successful completion of electrical engineering project deliverables, meeting all technical, quality, financial, and project controls expectations.
  • Initiate and convey the scope of work to group members, defining deliverables (e.g., calculations, specifications, drawings, design changes).
  • Review status and track progress of group members to maintain project scope/budget and keep the client informed.
  • Conduct routine status meetings and submit progress reports.
  • Track and resolve open items and emergent project issues.
  • Coordinate completion of project deliverables.
  • Lead the team through detailed design phases for all aspects of electrical engineering, including interface and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Develop project scope, cost estimates, and schedules for complex electrical modifications at nuclear power plants.
  • Develop proposals for complex electrical modifications at nuclear power plants.
  • Provide technical oversight and supervision for all electrical engineering activities, including:
    • Engineering design change packages to install, replace, or upgrade existing plant equipment for long-term reliability.
    • Engineering calculations supporting design change packages (e.g., AC and DC power studies, short circuit, cable ampacity, voltage drop, breaker coordination, motor starting, protective relay settings).
    • Equipment procurement specifications.
    • Bid review evaluation process for potential equipment vendors, including supporting vendor requests for information, responding to vendor questions, and maintaining a tracking mechanism for questions/responses.
  • Interface with the client to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Mentor and guide the development of the group.
  • Identify and follow up on client needs that may result in strategic opportunities.
  • Leverage client relationships to develop follow-on work.
  • Prepare and coordinate multi-discipline proposals.

Requirements

We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.

  • A BS degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Ten or more years of experience in the design of electrical engineering systems for power plants.
  • Three or more years of experience leading an engineering design group through all phases of a project.
  • Experience in the selection of equipment, materials, and the preparation and assembly of engineering design change packages, calculations, and specifications.
  • Experience serving as a firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
  • Experience with electrical system design, including low and medium voltage distribution systems (e.g., transformers, generators, motors, relays).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for conveying information to project team members and clients.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Detail-oriented approach to work.
  • Capable of being badged for unescorted access to a nuclear station.
  • PE Licensure is preferred.

AI & Automation

In this role, you are expected to lead others in using modern tools to solve engineering problems, from issue to solution. This includes setting expectations for using data, automation, and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs. Responsibilities may involve directing automation and process-improvement work, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation, while guiding the use of AI or agentic AI tools and ensuring results are checked.

Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required. Additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields is beneficial for effective oversight of automation and AI-enabled engineering workflows.
